The S&P 500 closed at a record high for the second consecutive session, starting the week on a high note as traders prepared for corporate earnings season to pick up pace.
The blue-chip index rose 0.8 per cent on Monday as more than 80 per cent of its constituents advanced. The Nasdaq Composite added 0.9 per cent, helped by Nvidia’s 2.4 per cent gain. The US chipmaker closed at a record high.
Small cap stocks also rose, with the Russell 2000 index adding 0.6 per cent.
Investors are looking ahead to a several major earnings results this week, including Netflix, United Airlines and some of the largest lenders in the US.
