Monday: South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa begins an official visit to China. New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon visits Malaysia. China’s Caixin manufacturing purchasing managers’ index for August is due.

Tuesday: Pope Francis arrives in Jakarta to begin his tour of south-east Asia. Russian President Vladimir Putin visits Mongolia. Russia’s Eastern Economic Forum starts in Vladivostok.

Wednesday: The Forum on China-Africa Cooperation kicks off in Beijing while Semicon Taiwan, an important chip industry event, begins in Taipei. Australia announces second-quarter gross domestic product.

Thursday: The defence and foreign ministers of Japan and Australia meet. August inflation data for Taiwan, Thailand and the Philippines are due. Malaysia’s central bank decides on interest rates.

Friday: Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and India announce their latest foreign reserves figures.
